CAMP CEDARWOOD
Week of March 27, 2006
On Thursday, our classroom was all different when we came to school. It was set up like a campground! The lights were off and there was a campfire "burning". Where our desks usually were, there were 3 tents instead. We spent 2 days at Camp Cedarwood. It was so much fun! Mrs. Lauritsen gave us camper's guide books. We checked our camp schedule first thing each morning and wrote in times on the clocks.
On the first day, we went fishing at contraction pond, "unscrambled" eggs over the campfire and went on a scavenger hunt around our "campsite". We each designed visors and T-shirts. We painted pinecones to make into birds for paper sack nests that we made for them. We made a beaded necklace with a compass on it. We took our shoes off and used flashlights to read in the tents! At the end of the day we listened to an Arthur story about camping and then we sang songs around our campfire.
On Day 2, we put on our campshirts because they were dry. We made cool picture frames. We solved some camp math word problems. We talked about star constellations and then we made up our own constellations and used sparkly stars to make it on black paper. After lunch we read with flashlights in the tents again. (We really liked that!) Then Mr. Lauritsen came and took us outside to roast marshmallows and make s'mores!! They were great! We wrote pretend postcards home to our parents telling them all about camp. No one got homesick and everyone loved camp!
