The 2007-08 school year was an excellent year for Beatrice Public Schools. Due to the outstanding efforts of all staff members students of District #15 were provided challenging academic experiences along with weekly instruction on how to be a person of character. Once again, as has become customary, both students and staff alike received many awards at both the local and state level. A few items of success from the 2007-08 school year are mentioned below:
School Safety: A high priority of the District is to provide a welcoming and safe environment for students, staff and patrons. Before the start of the 2007-08 school year the entrance to the high school office area was remodeled making it possible for office staff to personally observe everyone who enters the building. In the elementary schools a new phone system was installed that allowed each individual classroom to have a phone thus completing a goal that every K-12 classroom in the district have a phone that could be used in case of an emergency. In addition, a new communication system was put in place that allowed the school district to phone all parents notifying them of school closings and other building information.
State Report Card: Once again the State Report Card published by the Nebraska Department of Education reinforced the outstanding educational system provided to the students of District #15
Activities: Students at all levels excelled in many activities during the school year. Some of the areas where students demonstrated excellence were Reading Classics, Duke Academic Talent Search and at the high school numerous conference, district, state runner-up and state championships.
District Financial Status: The goal of the Beatrice Public Schools is to continually provide the highest quality education for all students in a very efficient and effective manner. With the many unfunded mandates required by both the State and Federal government achieving this goal is a huge challenge. However, because of a committed Board of Education and dedicated employees District #15 has been up to this challenge and thus has not increased the school district`s levy for the past seven years.
Student achievement, student safety, and emphasizing the six pillars of Character Counts will continue to be the focus of the Beatrice Public Schools. District #15 is able to maintain this focus year in and year out because of the excellent support of parents and patrons.
