Two Beatrice Middle School students and one Beatrice Middle School staff member were recognized for their achievements at the 2008 Youth Character Awards breakfast. The Youth Character Awards are sponsored by the Gage County Extension Office and 4-H Council. The criteria for nomination are based on the pillars of Character Counts, community involvement, and contributions that youth has made to the community. Each year, both Be Middle School teams nominate a student from their team that meets the criteria. This year, Cassie Thornburg and Carly Jones were nominated and were honored at the awards breakfast for their positive leadership and being a good role model for students at BMS. Also honored was Beatrice Middle School teacher Jan Smaus, the Family and Consumer Science teacher at BMS. Each year the Gage County Extension Office honors one person from the county with the Citizen of Character Award. Jan is an excellent teacher at BMS and does an excellent job at meeting the needs of students in her classroom. She sets high standards for her students and models what she expects from students.
Congratulations to Cassie Thornburg, Carly Jones, and Jan Smaus for demonstrating your character for all at Beatrice Middle School to see and honor.
