Holly Flanagan-Matzen
District Deaf Educator
by Holly Flanagan-Matzen
Introduction
I have been teaching since 2006. I was a para-educator two years prior to that in Milford. A little bit about me...I live in Lincoln and have lived there for 11 years. I was born in Bloomington, IL. We moved to Monroe, LA after that and then to Tulsa, OK. I have been married since 2004. My husband is a business teacher at Lincoln North Star. We have two cats and one dog.
Education
- B.S. in elementary education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I graduated in Dec. 2003.
- M.A. in deaf education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I graduated in May 2007.
Classes
I am the district deaf educator, so I go to every school. What I do at each school varies from student to student. At some schools, I teach certain subjects while at others I just visit with the students on my caseload to see how things are going.
Hobbies
I would say that my hobbies are volunteering. Every Sunday I volunteer as an adoption counselor at The Cat House. The Cat House is a no-kill shelter for cats in Lincoln, NE. I am currently fostering a cat from there. I have been volunteering there since July 2008. After The Cat House, I pick up a mentally handicapped man and take him to dinner at our house. This is his "social" activity for the weekend. I have been volunteering time with him since February 2001.
