News from Mrs. Frerichs
August 19, 2009
September 7 -No school, Labor Day
September 16-Dismiss at 11:40
Please help your child learn the lunch number that was sent home with them! They will need to know this number when they get milk or hot lunch. Don’t panic if they don’t know it right away but please do practice it at home. Knowing this number will help speed up our lunch line! Also, please make sure they know each morning if they will be eating hot lunch (school lunch) or cold lunch (lunch packed from home) because we have to turn in a count each morning. Thanks!
Our lunch is at 12:20. We will have a snack every morning.
Your child may arrive after 8:15 on the kindergarten patio, there is no supervision before that. If your child attends a day care please let them know this. Please have them go directly to the kindergarten patio and line up. If your child is eating breakfast (8:00-8:20) they need to go directly to the gym close to 8:00 when they arrive at school. All students need to be here by 8:25 when the bell rings to go inside so that they’re in the classroom at 8:30 when the tardy bell rings. We dismiss the kindergarteners at 3:15 so we can be sure to get them to the correct place (bus, day care van, etc.). The students need to be picked up daily by 3:25 or they’ll be sent to the office to call you. Thanks!
If you do bring your child after 8:30 or you come to school during the day you’ll need to use the front doors of the school. For safety reasons our doors are locked at 8:30. If you bring your child after 8:30 you’ll need to sign them in at the office. Also, if you’re visiting school you need to sign in on the visitor’s clipboard at the office.
Our specials are as follows:

Monday-Music
Tuesday-P.E and Library
Wednesday-Library and Music
Thursday- Guidance and P.E.
Friday- P.E., Art and Computer Lab

**Tennis shoes are best for every day but please make sure they at least wear them on P.E. days.
Attached is the handwriting we will use at school. Please help your child practice writing their first name with the first letter capital and the rest lower case. Thanks!
Please leave all toys and misc. at home unless we request an item.
The first few weeks of school we’ll be getting acquainted with our new friends and our classroom. We will learn how the classroom operates and practice working and playing with 21 other kindergartners. We will be reading stories about going to school, colors and shapes. We will also be learning about school safety, being respectful to others and being responsible for ourselves and our actions.
If your child is going home a different way than you notified us on the “first day of school note” you need to leave a message at the school office or send me a note, otherwise we’ll send them the scheduled way. Also, please be sure your child knows each morning what they are to do after school. Thanks!

I will send home a newsletter periodically as I need to get information to you! Please check and empty your child’s “daily folder” DAILY. Please be sure to return the daily folder to school every day! If you have notes for me please put them in their folder and make sure to tell your child to give it to me! I can’t check 22 folders every day! THANK YOU!
I am going to try to put our newsletters and other important information on the school website. The address is beatricepublicschools.org. Click on Stoddard School then scroll down to teacher websites and Mrs. Frerichs’ web page and click on that. When you get to my page you may want to make this one of your favorites if you plan on checking my site regularly. Please let me know throughout the year if any of you use it so I know if it’s worth my time and effort to update it! At some point I’m hoping to add photos and other activities. Keep this in mind when filling out your internet use form. The kids love seeing themselves on the website. It is fun for the kids to show relatives the pictures on the website that show the things we’re doing in our classroom. I’m also hoping to experiment with videos this year. THANKS!
Parents often ask if we take naps in kindergarten so I’ll tell you the answer to that question. No, we don’t. We do have a story time after lunch and if anyone does fall asleep we let them sleep.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns! You may contact me before or after school in person (unless I’m at a meeting), by note, phone or email at jfrerichs@bpsne.org. Please put your child’s first and last name in the subject line so I don’t think it’s junk mail if I don’t recognize your email address. I try to check it every day but sometimes don’t get to it so don’t send me time sensitive information that way. (example-John needs to ride the bus home instead of me picking him up) Thank you! I look forward to working with you and your child this year!
If you want to send an extra set of clothes to school for your child to have here in case of a spill or accident you may. I recommend a shirt, pants/shorts, socks and underwear. Put it in a big zip-lock bag and put your chid’s name on it and we’ll keep it here so you don’t have to leave work over a change of clothes if an accident occurs. Please keep in mind there are times we need to send children home for a bath in some cases. As the weather changes you can send appropriate clothes for cold weather. Thanks!
