    School Board Members Receive Awards

    The Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB), Board of Directors and staff, recognized the 2016 Award of Achievement recipients during the York Region Meeting on Wednesday, September 14, 2016.

    NASB is a private, nonprofit organization that serves the needs of Nebraska public school districts and Educational Service Unit board members.  Board Members from across the state may participate in board development training throughout the year by attending workshops and conferences to help strengthen their role in governance, legislative advocacy, and stewardship of district resources in support of student achievement.

    In recognition of their volunteer time and commitment to education, the Association commends continued participation and growth in knowledge and best practice governance.  Through the Awards of Achievement program, the following board members in attendance were recognized at the meeting for their outstanding excellence:

    ·         Janet Byars - Beatrice Public Schools - Level III

    ·         Nancy Sedlacek - Beatrice Public Schools - Level IV

    ·         Lisa Pieper - Beatrice Public Schools - Level IV

    ·         Jon Zimmerman - Beatrice Public Schools - Level V

    Elementary School Bond Information

    The Beatrice Pubic Schools Board of Education voted at a Special Board Meeting on August 29th to place a bond issue on the ballot for the November 8th, 2016 general election. The question before the public is:

    "Shall Gage County School District 0015 (Beatrice Public Schools) in the State of Nebraska issue its general obligation bonds in an aggregate stated principal amount not to exceed THIRTY FOUR MILLION EIGHT HUNDRED EIGHTY THOUSAND DOLLARS AND NO CENTS ($34,880,000.00), for the purpose of paying the costs of constructing, furnishing and equipping a new building of the School District to be used as an elementary school and related improvements; such bonds to be issued from time to time, to bear interest at such rate or rates, to be sold at such prices and to become due at such time or times as may be fixed by, or determined at the direction of, the Board of Education; and

    "Shall the School District cause to be levied and collected annually a special levy of taxes against all the taxable property in the School District sufficient in rate and amount to pay the principal of and interest on such bonds as the same become due?"

    Registered voters will be asked to vote either FOR the said bonds and taxes or AGAINST said bonds and taxes.
