BMS ADDS ACTIVITY PERIOD TO SCHOOL DAY
The Beatrice Middle School's newly implemented activity period at the end of the school day is a popular success so far.
The class period runs from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m. every day of the week except on Wednesdays. Students signed up earlier this year for activities such as singing, chess, math and running clubs, intramural basketball, soccer, volleyball, and tennis, Paws at the Human Society, and Fun For All with Mrs. Lyons. Of the school's 470 students, 463 were signed up as of Thursday for at least one day of after-school fun.
The goals of the activity period include strengthening relationships between staff and students, instilling in students a sense of enthusiasm about going to school, fun, and learning. Students who have missing assignments or failing grades miss out on the fun and attend an intervention period during the same time slot until their academic situation improves.
If people in the community have a talent they would like to share, they can contact the Beatrice Middle School. The commitment is from 3:15 to 3:45, once a week, for nine weeks.
