New Head Football Coach Announced
Beatrice High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Todd Ekart as its next Head Football Coach. Mr. Ekart will take over for Mr. Kevin Meyer, who has resigned from Beatrice to accept a similar position at Hillcrest High School in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Coach Ekart has 16 years of coaching experience, including 7 years of experience as a head football coach. He was a 4-year defensive starter while a student at Concordia University in Seward, and a 2-time All-Conference selection. He began his coaching career at Seward High School, working with defensive ends, offensive line, and wide receivers. From there he went to Gothenburg High School, serving as their defensive coordinator. Ekart joined Bob Sexton’s staff at Beatrice in 2007, and served as defensive coordinator for 4 years, as the Orangemen went to the playoffs three times, the state semifinals twice, and the state finals once. Ekart left Beatrice in 2011 to take over a Sidney program that had been winless. By his fourth season, he led his Raiders to a district championship, and two state playoff appearances. Most recently, he has been at Gering High School, where he has again made great strides in rebuilding the culture of their program. Coach Ekart’s accomplishments include 2013 and 2017 District Coach of the Year, 2013 Huskerland Preps Mike Berens Coach of the Year, and 2013 Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. He was selected as a coach for the 2014 West Nebraska All-Star Game, and for the 2015 Nebraska Shrine Bowl. His current supervisors praise Coach Ekart for his work ethic, his ability to build positive relationships, his excellent instructional skills, and his constant positive, upbeat attitude. Ekart, who will also serve on the Beatrice High School teaching staff as strength and conditioning instructor, says he expects his teams to be “clean, hard-hitting teams that play with passion and maximum effort.” Coach Ekart believes in developing multi-sport athletes, and says he looks forward to having a significant impact on the success of all BHS sport teams via the strength training class.
