No School- January 20th & 21st
With the recent rapid rise of COVID-19 cases and other illnesses creating a significant staffing crisis, Beatrice Public Schools is concerned about having sufficient staff in our buildings each week to keep schools safely open for student in-person learning. We are experiencing challenges at every position – teachers, paraeducators, nurses, counselors, psychologists, transportation, nutrition services, custodial, office support staff, administrators, and all of the other support positions that help a school run safely. In addition, a large number of students are missing valuable instruction and falling behind.
We know that students need in-person learning. They need to be in school whenever possible. Therefore, we have developed the following strategies to help us address the ongoing issues and sustain keeping schools open during this surge.
On Thursday, January 20 and Friday, January 21, Beatrice Public Schools will not be in session. BPS buildings will remain open with teachers reporting. BLAST after-school program will be closed. Middle school and high school extracurricular activities and athletics will continue as scheduled. Lunch will not be provided on these two days.
Additionally, if students have been out ill, please use this time to catch up on learning. Staff will be available to support virtually on work and learning students may have missed. If your student(s) need support, please have your child email his/her teacher.
We understand this can cause extra stress for families and do not make this decision lightly. Thank you for your continued support.
