It is so exciting to have all of our fourth graders back together for another great school year! There is something extra special about seeing the entire fourth grade class come together as one community. Wearing our matching Beatrice Elementary Ollie shirts provided by our PTO is a fun way to celebrate that sense of unity and show our school pride.
Our fourth graders have jumped right into learning! In reading and writing, students are learning how authors bring personal narratives to life by organizing events in chronological order and using sensory details and dialogue. They are also taking a hands on approach to mastering new vocabulary, interacting with words through movement, discussion, and creative activities that help build deeper understanding and make new learning stick.
Over the last week, students have also been working hard to show what they know through testing in reading, writing, math, and science. We are already spotting growth! Students have been doing their best to lock in, stay focused, and give each assessment their best effort. This fourth grade class is full of kiddos who truly want to do their best, and we are excited to see how much they continue to grow throughout the year.
That growth extends beyond academics! Students are building real world skills by learning how to balance their checkbooks for our classroom stores, while also practicing how to be safe in their space during emergency drills. Our students are taking the opportunities to practice independence, make thoughtful choices, and take ownership of themselves and their space. We love watching them grow into capable and responsible humans!
Over the first few weeks, we have been intentional about building a strong fourth grade community. Students have been getting to know one another, working together, and learning what it means to be part of a classroom where everyone belongs. Sometimes through some really silly games! When students feel connected and comfortable with the people around them, they are more willing to take risks, ask questions, make mistakes, and learn from one another. We are already seeing the difference that a strong sense of community can make, and we cannot wait to see what this group of fourth graders accomplishes together this year!
