What a wonderful start to kindergarten! We have been busy beginning our Reading CKLA Skills 1 and 2, students are building early literacy skills through writing strokes, beginning reading, and writing activities. In CKLA Knowledge, our focus has been on nursery rhymes. Students have enjoyed listening to, reciting, and discussing familiar nursery rhymes while building vocabulary, comprehension, and oral language skills. Kindergarteners are working hard on their fine motor skills by practicing pencil grip, cutting, tracing, coloring, and other hands-on activities. These skills help students become more independent with classroom tasks and classroom routines.
In math, students are learning about the numbers 0–5. We are practicing counting, recognizing numbers, comparing quantities, and connecting numbers to groups of objects. Our classes are learning what it means to also be a student at school by practicing routines, following directions, taking care of our materials, and working together. We are also developing important social skills, including sharing, taking turns, using kind words, solving problems, and making new friends. Our kindergarten teachers are excited to see their confidence grow and are so proud of the progress our kindergarteners are making each day!
