Here is what’s been happening in Fifth Grade the past few months.
Fifth graders enjoyed participating in our cereal drive and loved getting to watch the giant domino of cereal boxes fall around the school. They especially loved watching the boxes go down the slide!

At the end of September students had the opportunity to attend the Earth Festival at Camp Jefferson near Fairbury. Students went to various stations where they learned about water conservation, Nebraska history, how to use a map, trees, and animals native to Nebraska. Students enjoyed this trip and learned a lot!

In Reading, students finished up their Maya, Inca, and Aztec unit by creating a codex with information about their chosen topic. Students are currently working on Poetry and learning about the different parts of poems. They will finish that unit up next week! We will begin our Don Quixote novel study at the beginning of November!
In Math, we are multiplying, multiplying, and more multiplying! Students have been working hard on multiplying decimals and multiplying multi-digit numbers. Our next topic will be division!
In Social Studies, we finished up our Native American Unit! We have moved on to the Age of Exploration! It has been fun sharing with students how the effects of the Age of Exploration still affect our lives today! We will begin learning about Life in the American Colonies next!
In Science, we are continuing working on patterns of Earth and Sky! We have learned about the patterns of the stars. We have also learned about the Earth’s rotation and revolution. Once we finish up this unit, we will move on to Matter and Physical Science!
